Chronicles of Tellus
There was once a castle stationed in the woods near Nedrill on orders from Greyhawk. The castle, called Blackrock, was the first warning post for any invasion from the east into Greyhawk’s lands, much as Nedrill is now. The ruler of Blackrock was a vile, wicked man whose only use was the exact and efficient exterminating of his foes. The man, whose name is lost to time, hired only the most wicked men to serve as his council. One of these men, Ocard Yoflam, was a particularly nasty wizard. Ocard soon overthrow the ruler and took Blackrock for his own. He quickly converted the castle into a nightmarish hell of traps and wicked creatures that readily killed the men stationed there.
Upon hearing of this betrayal, the ruler of Greyhawk, High Lord Charnathan, sent scores of troops to take Blackrock back. After his men were unsuccessful in bypassing the traps and evil minions, in addition to the natural defenses of a castle, High Lord Charnathan spent great wealth and commissioned a band of sorcerers to level the castle with a series of Meteor Swarm spells. Blackrock’s dungeons, however, were never cleared out due to the dangerous threat. Once Ocard was killed the Green Guard returned to Greyhawk.
In the three centuries since then, countless hundreds of adventurers have braved Blackrock Dungeon, as it has been dubbed, but few have ever escaped the peril. The trend has long since died off once Sir Edwin appeared, as he cleansed most of the evil from the area. He warned all that there were still deadly traps and magical energies he could not tame, but that any violent creatures had been removed. But since his disappearance nearly two months ago, evil has once more came to call the Dungeon home, as if they have been unexplicably summoned to the area. What’s more, adventurers have been reported treading the road toward the ruins of Blackrock!
