Chronicles of Tellus
Turvell was a longtime friend and ally of John VeLuc. Together, they formed the Band of the Black Hand. After John’s death, Turvell saw that the Band was headed down a dead-end road. Under John’s leadership, the Band would seek out thieves and criminals, reclaiming their stolen goods, and giving the bounties to the sick and needy. While this was completely virtuous, it left little for the men of the Band. Under Turvell’s guidance, the Band decided to keep any treasures found in order to fund their excursions and keep the men healthy and well supplied. John’s son, Shadren Sevastyan, did not agree with this change and split the group in two. Shadren and those who followed him formed the Band of the Red Hand. What followed was a long and bloody feud between the two.
It was not until Shadren’s mother, Reene, was stricken with a disease beyond Shadren’s ability to cure that the feud was ended. Turvell, who heard of the dismal outlook for Reene, journeyed to save her. It was his love of John and respect for his old friend’s son that motivated him to save the wife and mother. This was the moment that Shadren realized the benefit of Turvell’s plan, as the Band of the Red Hand had no funds to spend on saving Reene. Shadren, whose moral compass had become a spinning top, decided to leave Nazca for other lands. In his wake, Turvell took it upon himself to claim leadership of both Bands, designating one (the Black Hand) to follow the original tenets and the other (the Red Hand) to become dedicated to spreading healing and care across the land. He now seeks Shadren with all his might, with the hopes of bringing the young man back home to Nazca and returning leadership of the Red Hand.
